Memorial Day is a tough one. Yes, I think it takes courage to be a soldier, so I do respect that. The reality versus the blind patriotism is whats tough to stomach. Nobody is fighting for my freedom-the ones that try to take that away are members of my government and the corporations that bought them. Always has been. The reasons we go to war are not defensive-they are offensive measures. The ones in harms way are typically kids with no education and no way out. The benefactors are the rich. Memorial Day was started by slaves because they had no other recognition from a country they fought for. I just dont understand the celebration and flag waving. This is a tragic day-a reminder of everything that is wrong and corrupt, and the soldiers that die in that context. To think otherwise is to confine your understanding of history to a 6th grade textbook.
