Merry Christmas, Movieheads. sure its Christmas Eve, and were with the ones we love (minus yours truly who opted to relax for a bit before spending the day with the sisters) but the love is all around especially in the movie that has become a tradition for the past 11 years. with that, a special holiday edition of Pick of the Week. writer-director Richard Curtis has been a staple for comedy, romance, and the goofy look I get after each movie. and when I first saw Love Actually in 2003 at the newly renovated (and expanded) Exhibition Cinemas aka Studio 10 aka Cineplex, the familiar elements were there with an all star ensemble featuring slices of eye candy in the form of Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, and Alan Rickman (even if he a pompous pill), the always fabulous Emma Thompson and Laura Linney, and a crop of fresh faces who went on to bigger and better things that include Bill Nighy, Keira Knightley, Thomas Sangster (Hughs nephew), Martin Freeman, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Andrew Lincoln (pre-Walking Dead). so whether its longing for it, losing it, keeping it, searching for something new and doing what it takes to fall in love as the lives (young and old) are spun into a tapestry of truth and beauty and maybe break your heart a little bit, too as the countdown to Christmas leaves the London lads & lasses lovestruck and maybe a little sick, too. while the reviews were mixed in both America and the United Kingdom, it had enough radiant enough romance to finish at #5 on my Best of 2003 list. Love Actually premieres tonight on Encore 1.
