Merry Meet all! I want to continue the traditions series tonight with Hereditary tradition. Hereditary tradition Hereditary witchcraft is probably one of my favorites, there are no "rules" per se, no actual leader of the tradition or covens, it does not even have covens in the manner that we all think of when we think of "coven". Hereditary is just as it sounds, spells, rituals, medicine recipes, absolutely everything is handed down from generation to generation and each new witch brings something new to the tradition with his or her experiences and passes the old along with the new to his or her children. Obviously since it has no real structure as we think of in Wicca, it is not considered Wicca, simply Witchcraft. The elders in the family are looked to for advice and counsel and as teachers. Now having said that, there is another form of Hereditary witchcraft that does not require you to be immediate family but just having heritage to the country...for example, someone with Scottish heritage (full blooded of course) would be admitted to a Scottish Hereditary tradition or coven even if they are not directly related to the leader or any other covener or practitioner in the coven, yes this particular version of Hereditary does form covens. They work similarly to the previous Hereditary tradition in that all information is passed down and to the other members of the coven and both variations tend to try to keep their particular spells, rituals etc among themselves but there is no penalty for sharing outside the coven in most lines. Blessed be! - Sylie
