Message from Walsall Council:- I refer to your electronic Petition regarding the safety aspects along Chester Road and Lindon Road as presented to Council on 22 September. First of all I would like to say that I thought that the presentation given by your children was excellent and identified the key issues and considerations. Councillor Jeavons, the Council Porfolio Holder, responded to the matters raised. As you observed the recommendations of the report were approved by Council. I understand that you spoke to my Director, Mr Jamie Morris, after the meeting and I would like to give you an update on actions with respect to the matters you raised and we had identified. We will be: · carrying out further traffic/pedestrian surveys along Chester Road ensuring due acknowledgement of pupil routes etc. This will be after the October half term and before the Christmas Break · carrying out the upgrade works to the Lindon Road Zebra Crossing and I can confirm that we have now ordered the equipment from our contractor Amey and we are looking approx 3 -4 wks for delivery and installation, so we will be pushing to install before the schools return from half term. · reviewing the whole area particularly in conjunction with changes that will result from the future introduction of the new Walsall Wood Leisure facility, which is currently in design, to ensure all pedestrian and traffic routes are reviewed and appropriate facilities are implemented. · continuing our work with Shire Oak school with the A* programme and road safety training and education · reviewing opportunities to seek alternative funding to enable the earlier implementation of the identified schemes in the programme. I trust that you find this a beneficial update and I confirm our continued commitment to monitor and improve road safety as far as practicable.
