Message from Worshipful Master – Hello Brothers – The month of September will be busy again. On the 12th, we are having a benefit lunch and dinner to raise funds for the Bristow Free Medical Clinic. The lunch will be from 11:00am to 1:00pm and the dinner will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Since we are doing both a lunch and a dinner we will need lots of help so please plan to attend and help out. Fraternally, Gene Wood, Worshipful Master Preceding Meeting Minutes – From August 13, 2013 – Lodge opened at 600pm. WM closed the lodge of MM and opened a lodge of FC, which was then closed and a lodge of EA was opened. Quenten Grieve turned in his EA lecture and was voted to be proficient. The lodge of EA was then closed and a lodge of FC was reopened. The FC degree was performed for Quenten Grieve. The lodge of FC was then closed and a lodge of MM was opened. WM then declared us to be at recess for the meal, which was served at 630pm. At dinner, a check for $600 was presented to the Bristow Fire Department, and 2 iPads with protective grip covers were presented to the Bristow Special Needs Students. At 700pm, the lodge of MM resumed work. The Charter continues to be draped in honor of WB Harold Angell who passed away on July 22 and for Brother Billy D. Jackson who passed away in 2010. Bills paid of $43.93 to the City of Bristow for water service, of $149.03 to OG&E for electric service and of $56.19 to ONG for gas service were announced. Bills to pay for $202.26 to Farmers Insurance, for $192.65 to Don Bowman for meals and for $99.90 to David Ridgeway for covers for the iPads were announced and voted to be paid. Correspondence from MCF for the matching funds for the Fire Department, from Grand Lodge regarding September being designated reunion month, from Prevent Blindness awarding former WB Jay Craig and Brothers Dub Denny and Bud Goodroad Ambassador Pins for 2012 and sending WM Wood and Sec Bruno their screening certifications was read. The Investigation Committee reported favorably on Nathan S. Howard, but his Petition was rejected by the vote of the lodge. Sec Bruno announced a request from Prevent Blindness for screening help at the Bristow Head Start on 8/20, Brother Denny and WB Seney will attend. Essay contest forms for local high school seniors were received, Brother Vandecar will take forms to Depew HS and WM Wood will take them to Bristow HS. Discussion and voting on Building Fund business was tabled until the 8/27 meeting. Brother Murray announced that the Hunter Education class would be on 8/24 and that he was going to purchase a big screen TV for the lodge to use. From August 27, 2013 - Dinner was served at 630pm, lodge opened at 705pm. Minutes from the 8/13 meeting were read and approved with one addition. A bill paid to ONG for $53.36 for gas service was announced. One bill to pay to Don Bowman for $65.66 for meal expenses was announced and voted to be paid. Correspondence received from the Tulsa Scottish Rite regarding the fall reunion was read. The cost for the reunion on October 26 and 27 has been reduced from $175 to $125. Discussion was held regarding the creation of a new building fund and the potential disposition of monies in the current fund. A motion was made a passed to create a new fund as outlined in the draft addition to the by-laws that was distributed at the last meeting and in the newsletter and to close the existing fund and use a portion of that money establish an endowment fund to assist distressed worthy Brothers. Another by-law addition will be distributed with the next newsletter and voted on at the 9/10 meeting. Sec Bruno reported the results of the newsletter postcard mailing, 19 responses, some postcards and some telephone calls, were received out of 47 postcards sent. Some Brothers provided email addresses for future correspondence. Three Brothers returned postcards requesting that the newsletter continue to be mailed to them, but they did not include their names. Newsletters will be sent to Brothers for whom we have email addresses and those that returned a postcard with their name indicating such or who called to request the same. Mailings will decrease from 47 per month to only 8. Sec Bruno also announced that he would be absent from the 9/10 meeting. JD Ridgeway announced a fund raiser lunch/dinner on 9/12 to benefit the Bristow Free Clinic, and also that a gun raffle would be held with a drawing on 11/1. Tickets will be $10 each with a limit of 500 tickets to be sold. JD Murray reported that the Hunters Education session held the previous weekend was a great success. Meeting News – Meetings now start at 700pm instead of 730pm every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Dinner still begins at 630pm. The next District 13 meeting will be September 26th in Bixby. The October meeting will be in Sand Springs on the 30th. Please attend if you can. The following addition to the Lodge By-Laws will be voted on at the meeting on September 10. The lodge voted on August to eliminate the current building fund and replace it with an endowment fund to benefit distressed worthy Brothers. If you wish to express your feelings on this By-Laws addition and cannot make the meeting, please contact Nick or Gene. ARTICLE XXVI Section 1. CREEK 226 BROTHERHOOD ENDOWMENT: There shall be an established savings account to be known as “Brotherhood Endowment.” The purpose of which shall be a source of monies to be used for the relief of worthy distressed Brothers. Section 2. BOARD OF CONTROL: The fund shall be under the control and supervision of a Board of Control composed of the Worshipful Master, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Treasurer and Secretary. The Worshipful Master shall be Chairman of the Board of control. Section 3. SOURCE OF FUND: The fund shall be established with an initial $500.00 deposit. The fund shall be accumulated by (a) Creek Lodge 226 shall deposit the sum of $200.00 on the first business meeting each January, (b) Gifts, Contributions and Bequests from members and others, and (c) any and all monies authorized by the Lodge to be transferred from the General Fund to this fund (d) Any Lodge fundraisers or funds from fundraisers deemed for such account. Section 4. USE AND DISTRUBITION OF FUND: To qualify for the assistance from the “Brotherhood Endowment” a Brother must (1) contact an officer of the Lodge and request relief, (2) The Worshipful Master shall appoint a 3 member committee consisting of 3 Master Masons in Lodge to investigate and report to Lodge (3) pass a majority vote of lodge members at a stated business meeting. Funds from the Brotherhood Endowment may not be transferred to the general fund or any other lodge funds. Section 5. ACCOUNTING AND REPORTS: The Board of Control shall render to the Lodge, at the first meeting in December of each year, and more often if required by the Lodge, a true and correct account, in detail, of all its receipts and disbursements, and shall submit its books and records for examination by a committee which the Lodge may designate. Lodge News – Please check to be sure you have a current membership card for 2013. We have several Brothers who have not paid dues for 2013 yet. If you are unsure whether you are paid up please contact Nick. The lodge will be holding a raffle between now and November 1. No more than 500 tickets will be sold for $10 each. The winner will have his choice of a Savage Model 11 rifle with scope in his choice of caliber, a Taurus PT 709 slim or PT 740 slim pistol or a PSE Stinger 3G bow package. Membership Notes – To date, we have received 19 replies from Brothers about continuing to receive the newsletter. I got additional email addresses for some, and we have reduced the monthly mailing list from 47 letters to about 10, a significant savings for the lodge. I did receive some postcards from Brothers who indicated that they wished to continue to receive the newsletter by mail, but they did not include their name on the card. If you know of any Brothers who wish to get the newsletter by mail and do not get one this month, please let me know and I will add them to the new list.
