Mike McGinn has not measured up when it comes to fighting crime, - TopicsExpress

Mike McGinn has not measured up when it comes to fighting crime, including Domestic Violence - 8 years since cops have had professional development in this area, yet its most of their calls. Im not sure he even considers property crime a crime at this point. I need a mayor who acknowledges that Downtown needs help. Mike denies this and that is wrong. Additionally, his resistance to essential police reform was very disappointing at best. What he is into is heaping on gobs of police overtime - up nearly $4M just last year from $13.1M to $16.8M - IN ONE YEAR! The same year he only put $2M of the general fund into street maintenance and less that $50K of the general fund into sidewalk repair. I believe we need policy to shut off police overtime. The last thing we need on a day to day basis or during an emergency is overworked cops. Here are the numbers... Year - Overtime Wages - Regular Wages - Total Wages 2003 $9,633,164.96 $78,410,977.34 $88,044,142.30 2004 $10,412,552.95 $77,927,476.88 $88,340,029.83 2005 $11,259,078.92 $91,126,473.43 $102,385,552.35 2006 $11,961,989.46 $89,426,908.06 $101,388,897.52 2007 $13,035,977.72 $89,935,834.29 $102,971,812.01 2008 $15,323,107.89 $109,985,055.99 $125,308,163.88 2009 $13,688,782.30 $112,700,024.16 $126,388,806.46 2010 $12,655,213.62 $122,372,405.02 $135,027,618.64 2011 $13,081,210.03 $122,505,796.42 $135,587,006.45 2012 $16,832,352.70 $121,230,315.65 $138,062,668.35 I dont know about you, but most people do not do their best work when they get involved in perpetual overtime. Additionally, it can take a real toll on their families and coworkers. I want it ended. The job pays just fine - $80K in base pay at step 6. On top of that there are about another $40+K of benefits. I think for that package we can feel just fine about saying no to overtime.
