Mima Mounds about 15 mile south of Olympia. Very unusual mounds that are between 15-25 feet across and about 5 feet high. There are thousand of acres. No one is sure how they were formed but one hypothesis is they were formed after the last ice age by pocket gophers (not golfers like auto correct keeps trying to change). Little rodents built them, as the ice receded, on hard till to keep their burrows above the water table. The unprotected areas have the densest growth of Scotch Broom that Ive ever seen.
