Minister Ahmetaj invites Kosovar businesses to present their problems on the elimination of non-tariff barriers “The continuous consultation with the business community in regards to the joint measures for the elimination of trade barriers between our countries will remain at the focus of work of the Government of Albania”, wrote the Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Entrepreneurship, Arben Ahmetaj, in the letter addressed to the Executive Director of American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, Arian Zeka. The Minister Ahmetaj’s letter comes as a reply of AmCham’s letter sent on Janary 9, 2014 to the Prime Ministers of Kosovo and Albania, where AmCham expressed its concerns regarding the imposition of tariff and non-tariff barriers by both countries. American Chamber invited the governments of both countries to engage more powerfully and show greater energy on joint cooperation between Kosovo and Albanian, believing that this would lead to the improvement of the economic situation of both countries. As a result , the Minister of Economic Development of Albania responded by saying that the Government of Albania shares the same concern as the American Chamber regarding the need to eliminate any barriers to the bilateral trade. The Minister Ahmetaj, among others said that by signing the recent agreement, signed in Prizren, for cooperation in encouraging and facilitating trade, fields and specific objectives of cooperation have been determined for the elimination of non-tariff barriers and other administrative obstacles that are of concern to bilateral trade. Mr. Arben Ahmetaj added that given the importance of intensification of economic relations between Albania and Kosovo , the Albanian Government prioritized the commitment in this direction , by announcing that they are working on drafting a detailed plan of measures in compliance with the recent agreement signed by the Prime Ministers of Kosovo and Albania. Deepening the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is of highly importance towards sustainable economic development of both countries. A healthy cooperation with the private sector would help in promoting and facilitating trade between these two countries therefore, while appreciating the willingness for the cooperation, the Government of Albania expressed their readiness to take into considerations the suggestions of Kosovar businesses towards deepening the economic and trade cooperation between Albania and Kosovo.
