Minor Hurling 13-a-side Semi-Final OPHC 2:11 Brownstown 1:02. Our minors travelled to Clonkill last Saturday to play Brownstown in the semi-final of the Div 2 Minor Club Championship. Conditions were ideal for hurling and from the start our lads raced into an early lead with four unanswered points, three from Paddy Lynam & one from Sean O’Brien. With our backs being confidently marshaled from the first line of defense by Conor Bracken they were always in control, Sean Kelly, Niall Kevin, Sean Byrne, Jack Quinn & Sean Flanagan all played their part in keeping the Brownstown score to one point in the opening half. Halfway through the first half we lost corner forward Danny Purcell through injury and he was replaced by Dylan Ledwith. Almost immediately Ledwith made a major impact by finding the net after some good interaction between our midfield and forwards. Just before half time Sean O’Brien (injured) was replaced by Niall O’Toole. An excellent long range point from Dylan Cannon brought the first half to a conclusion with the scores 1:05 to St OPHC & 0:01 Brownstown. The second half commenced with Brownstown still finding it difficult to get to grips with our lads and with Lynam, Luke Byrne and Dylan Cannon driving forward from midfield the first score of the half went to St OPHC with a point from Lynam. Within minutes Ledwith had found the net again with a fantastic piece of individual work. He followed this with a point moments later. Two more points from the ever industrious Lynam brought the scores to 2:09 to 0:01 before Brownstown eventually breached our defense with a great opportunistic goal. Our lads kept driving forward and with some staunch work from Ryan Purcell & Donal Liddy we closed the game out with points from Cannon & Purcell. Overall it was a great team effort, with excellent hurling skills throughout. We now face the winners of Castlepollard v Lough Lene Gaels in the final which will be played in two weeks time.
