Mishal tagged me and since Ill shamelessly jump on any opportunity to discuss books, here goes. This is not a list of my favorite books. This is a list of books that changed my life by changing the way I thought about books. 10 Books that Changed My Life (in the order in which I read them): 1. James and the Giant Peach, Roald Dahl - Books can be SO MUCH FUN 2. Harry Potter, J K Rowling - Books can be SO MUCH FUN, while also becoming synonymous with lifelong feelings of comfort and attachment. 3. Gadariya, Ashfaq Ahmed - Books can break your heart. 4. Labbaik, Mumtaz Mufti - Books can be irreverent and kind of amazing as they endearingly try to ingratiate themselves in your list of besties. 5. Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen - (Good)Books about the preoccupations of women are as special and rare, as the men who take women’s opinions seriously. 6. Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov - Books can be so fabulously written that they influence the way you think about literature forever. 7. The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, James Joyce - Books can be hard as hell, and just as rewarding. 8. The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison - Books can change the way you see yourself. 9. The Book of Daniel, E L Doctorow - Books can completely revolutionize the genre they belong to as they break down barriers between fiction and fact, reader and writer. 10. Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn - Books, no matter how well-reviewed, can be disastrous pieces of crap that you’ll regret wasting your money over forever. And I nominate my dear brother, Nadir!
