Missouri Department of Mental Health Job Opportunity Accountant I About us: The Division of Administration, headed by the departments Director of Administrative Services, provides administrative and financial services to help the department achieve effective results. The Division of Administration includes the following units: • Budget and Finance develops and monitors the annual budget, oversees the legislative fiscal note process, provides expenditure oversight, and analyzes and compiles financial and other related reports; • Accounting oversees and monitors all funds, manages expenditures, administers grant funds, and produces fiscal summaries, analyses and reports; • Purchasing and General Services establishes and administers contracts with private agencies or individuals to provide services in the community and is also responsible for various General Services functions in central office; • Reimbursements collects payments from private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare, and private pay for department services and coordinates revenue maximization activities Responsibilities: The primary duties for this Accountant I position will be the review and approval of purchase orders and payments in the SAMII Financial system. The position will also assist with other SAMII processing issues and serve a back-up for the SAMII HR payroll activities. Qualifications: (The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers. When practical and possible, the Division of Personnel will accept substitution of experience and education on a year-for-year basis.) A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in Accounting. OR Four or more years of varied double-entry bookkeeping experience of which at least two years must have involved responsibility for the more difficult bookkeeping tasks including the preparation of work sheets, the preparation of financial statements, and/or the classification of items for proper entry, etc. (Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university in Accounting may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the required experience at a rate of 6 earned credit hours for one year.) OR Four or more years of governmental accounting experience at the level of Account Clerk II. (Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university in Accounting may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the required experience at a rate of 6 earned credit hours for one year.)
