Mitochondrial Eve (mt-mrca) is the name given by researchers to the woman who, by matrilineal reckoning, is the most recent common ancestor (mrca) for all living humans. She is the person from whom all mtDNA in living humans is derived. She is believed by some to have lived about 150,000 years ago in East Africa, in or near present-day Tanzania.
