Modern Pioneer- At 36 y/o I sold everything I had that I couldnt carry on a truck. I decided that a piece over grown, left to go wild piece of land was for me. I decide to get back to the land, the land inwhich I was raised on, in a tradition that is against the norm, country living at its finest. Now Homesteading, it took blood sweat and tears to get where I am at today. If you have joined me in the last few years or months, you have joined a site that covers many aspects of Homesteading, and my personal life. I sat, bended on my knees, and cried as I recovered the dead bodies of my chickens because I didnt built a good enough fence to protect them at night. I sat and cried, as tears rolled down my face, when I pulled my dead tomato plants from the soil and discarded them because of disease. The loss of life and food in both cases had a profound effect and taught me how to do things better. They also taught me how to take better care of my food supply. Hard work, in the first years, I cleared more brush than you can imagine. I uncovered places to plant hedge rows of brambles, I moved dirt to make a plateau on the side of a mountain to plant and grow a garden. All these things just didnt pop up out of the ground, I made it happen. Gardening as well as gathering and lots of photos I have shared, Vegetarians, Vegans and Carnivores alike have drooled over those photos. Rightfully so, theyre organically grown goodness and the stuff gathered is nature raised. As a Community, there is a value system here, this is a place where all kinds of folks can belly up, kick back and enjoy what is going on. I have to respect you as I ask you to respect others and the choices they make. Out of respect, I never post pictures of my kills. There is no glory in showing off a kill, killing a animal for food has a purpose. I may from time to time show the meat, but that is rare or within keeping of a Homesteading nature. When I harvest a animal, I believe several things. God gave us the animals to eat, God has provided that animal to me to nurture my body and to feed me. That animal should be respected by a quick kill, and a respectable harvest. I believe people are disconnected from their food source today, not everyone, but many are. I believe if many folks had to process their own meat, less meat would be eaten or none would go disguarded in the trash. From canning, making bread, cooking with cast iron, gathering food, growing veggies, collecting eggs, Homesteading Skills, processing domesticated meat for food too hunting, these are all aspects of Homesteading, this site, and my life. As a Christian, God is a very important part of my life. I will from time to time mention my faith, and how Blessed I am, the Grace God has shown to me, and the love he has given me. I dont judge you or will I allow other to do so because of what you believe or dont here. This site is about Homesteading and living off the land, and some of my personal life. If these ideas and methods are not keeping within your acceptance range, than just unlike this page and move on. Keep in mind that there are many Homesteaders here as well, some are Urban Homesteaders, Gardners, Farmers, New Comers and some are just Country folk. No matter your social status, if you want to learn how to become independent and Self Sufficient, your going to learn some of that here. Id like to welcome everyone here this morning and thank you for joining me and my life.... Peace/Love/God Bless, Jason and I am a Modern Pioneer....
