Monday, August 4: One of my favorite things about my boys and - TopicsExpress

Monday, August 4: One of my favorite things about my boys and husband is their sense of humor. There is lots of laughter on a typical day at my house. They are all quick witted and you have to be thick skinned to make it with this crew. Dane – he thinks everything is funny. Even if its not – he finds a way to make it funny. The only things in his life that are not funny are his faith and roping. When he backs in the box – its all business. Jokes abound at every other time of day. Since our accident, he didn’t laugh for a long time. It was heart breaking for us. Then on one Sunday, his brother, Pierce, and his friend, Chandler made him laugh out loud for hours. But it wasn’t until today that he actually told the jokes!!! He remembered!!!! Praise the Lord! He said two things – he repeated the joke his father has told him a hundred times. And he told his dad- “You got issues, I got tissues!” Laughter is good medicine. Today, we ran an errand and picked up a temporary handicap parking plaque. We talked about how we will only need this for a little while, as we are building up our strength. We ate lunch at our favorite Bowie restaurant, Dos Chilies, with his Katie Claire and her mom, Cindy, who is one of Dane’s teachers. We went home and he was tired so we decided to get in the big comfy chair and watch tv for a bit. He fell asleep. As he rested leaned against me, I could feel him breathe, I was overcome with emotion as I touched his sweet head and how precious, how fragile yet strong he is. I am so grateful that I could hold him today and watch him breathe, watch him rest. I prayed as he rested, asking again with boldness that the Lord continue to heal Dane and give him the opportunity to Glorify the name of the Almighty Father. It would be my typical reaction that I should have gotten up and done something, cleaned something, or multitasked while he rested but now all that didn’t seem so important. The world didn’t quit spinning, I’m not less of a mother, wife, or homemaker because I didn’t get the kitchen totally cleaned up. Oh, the lessons I have learned. “ The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save. He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 I rejoice today because he did save Dane and the Lord has an amazing plan for him. I rejoice because He has given us peace because of His love. Tonight, we were invited over to our neighbors and dearest friends house, the Deans. They are more like family than friends. Dane is very comfortable at their home. We had a good dinner and after, we went outside. He had to walk on a river rock path on an incline to get to their lakes dock – what great rehab – He did it very well (Holley and I went around!) He had multiple steps and levels which he managed like a champ. So we are counting that as therapy for the day! Dane never ceases to rise to the challenge before him. I can learn a lot form this precious 11 year old child. Glory to God…..Sunday’s coming…………………
