Wilderness Medicine differs from urban medicine due to: 1) There is no difference, medicine is medicine. 2) Treatment of patients with hypothermia, heat illness and insect bites. 3) More than 30 minutes transport time to definitive care. 4) The context in which we practice: extended patient contact time, environmental challenges, evacuation decisions and the need to improvise gear.
