Monday was a busy day at the Frick. The new artifact cases have been installed in the Orientation Center. This series of photos shows Director of Education, Amanda Gillen, helping curatorial staff for the day. Amanda is working with Carrie Payne to install one of Mrs. Adelaide Howard Childs Fricks ivory silk evening gowns. The costume and clothing accessory collection at the Frick Art & Historical Center numbers around 3,000 pieces, and most of these belonged to Adelaide Frick. Often, the maker is unknown (as is the case with this gown) because tags have been removed. Mrs. Frick is known to have patronized Worth, Callot Soeurs, and Beer--all notable Parisian firms. Its also possible that some gowns were made by local seamstresses in imitation of the latest Parisian styles. This heavy silk gown embellished with rhinestone decoration is a fine example of Adelaides conservative elegance.
