Most Highly Recommended - Everyone Please Listen & Share - Continuing Education Series - Ethiopian Jews Series - Sigd שגד Festival Series In summer 1983 I was blessed to be part of the pioneering covert operation of the American Association for Ethiopian Jews (AAEJ) when we brought the very first Ethiopian Jews from Gedaref Sudan to push our Medinah, 18 months before Mivtzah Moshe, the Israeli Operation Moshe which brought 9500 Ethiopian Jews home from Sudan. Last Thursday I was there in the Sigd שגד Festival celebrated annually 50 days after Yom Kippur at the mountain overlooking the Temple Mount from the south. This high place is currently known as Armon HaNatziv Prominade (which used to be the mansion of the British governor; Egged bus here in Yerushalayim. Sigd is an ancient Ethiopian Jewish festival was made on Ethiopian mountains in each of the hundreds of villages of the national community for millennia to pray for their return to Yerushalayim. Now Sigd is an official annual Israeli festival for all Israeli Jews. Ive attended Sigd every year since 2010 when I returned to Israel.
