Most parents struggle with this topic on a regular basis. Our children need consistent limits at home. This helps them navigate the rest of their world with greater ease. We help create a foundation of understanding rules and consequences. As a society, I think the message sent to parents is be your childs friend. This can make it more challenging to be a disciplinarian as a result. My children know that we have rules for a reason. I am the boss (and so is my husband.) We regularly discuss our family rules, negotiate, and come to an understanding of why they are important. Because they know the rules, my children can feel more secure. Its a work in progress, but I know that this is so important for their future!
