Mrinal, thanks for posting these Mrinal.. I spent the whole day yesterday listening to indigenous peoples from Latin America, first in the CAOI (Organization of Andean Indigenous Peoples in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia) where I made opening remarks in their regional exchange on how consultation with them is conducted by governments. Then, I was in the Hearing organized by the Forest Peoples Program and AIDESEP on Deforestation and Climate Change, Perspectives and Proposals of Indigenous Peoples. I met and talked with various indigenous peoples from Peru, Ecuador, Suriname, Guyana, Panama, Brazil It was here where I met the President of CONAIE and the representative of the community where Jose Tendretza, the indigenous leader killed who was supposed to be in this meeting, as well. There was a powerful testimony of Margarita Chino from the Loreto region on the oil contamination of their lands and rivers after 40 years of oil extraction by oil corporations in their territories.
