Ms. Wachter Project KANSAS CITY, KS In early September, Jo went to the doctor and the Doctor found 2 masses on her liver and instructed her to go get a CAT scan. The scan verified the masses. Additional tests were done to check the gastrointestinal tract to see if there were cancer masses any place else. The biopsy was sent off and, surprisingly, no cancer was found any where else. The doctor realized that the tumors were in a bad position in the liver making them non-operable. At that point, Jo was sent to a liver oncologist at KU Medical Center. The specialist confirmed that it was non-operable and that she was not a candidate for transplant because the cancer had traveled to her lymph nodes. Another specialist was sent in to discuss a new technique using radioactive beads that would be injected straight into the tumor. Now, we are waiting for insurance to be taken care of in order to start the procedures. There will be a mapping surgery to make sure there is no blockage in the femoral artery and that the liver wont leak the radioactive beads into her lungs. This will be followed by two injections of the beads; one to the left lobe of the liver and one to the right. Now we are raising money to help out with Jos growing Medical expenses we ask for any assistance you can provide, no amount is too small.
