Mt. Maculot update (08/14/14): The barangay officials (Brgy. Siete) are still not allowing hikers to climb via the conventional route (New Trail) to the Rockies. Some groups have reported successful hikes using the Grotto trail (Brgy. Cinco) so for the really determined to climb Maculot, your best bet would be going through the Grotto-Summit-Rockies route -- and you can also try going to conventional route to see if theyre already allowing hikers. Otherwise, it may be more prudent to wait for a few weeks - by then, the trails would be in better shape and the status of Maculot would also be clearer. (Disclaimer: This is the best information I have at the moment. As in all hikes, climb at your own risk and base your decision on multiple sources, including local sources who can provide real-time updates.)
