Mufti Cautions Muslims on Prof. Kabwegyere Report:The Mufti of Uganda H.E Shk. Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has cautioned Muslims against issues that might spoil their fasting during the forthcoming Holy month of Ramadhan. He urged them not to be taken up by things like the World cup and “Prof. Kabwegyere Committee report” noting that they are plots meant to drive the attention of Muslims from intensifying Ibaadah (acts of worship) during the Islamic fasting period. The Mufti said this while addressing thousands of Muslims who turned up for today’s Juma prayers in the National Mosque at the UMSC Headquarters – Old Kampala. The Sermon was delivered by Shk. Juma Ali Shiwuyo, the Second Imam of the National Mosque. In his remarks, the Mufti appealed to Muslims not to be alarmed by the misleading media reports about the findings of the Kabwegyere Committee noting that whoever is behind them is peddling disunity and should be regarded as an enemy of Islam. He however noted that whatever the intentions of the media reports, UMSC remains intact and progressive with all its organs and constitution in place. “I would like to assure all of you that, you democratically and constitutionally elected your leaders right from the village Mosque to the Headquarters. Your constitution and organs are still intact and progressive” the Mufti assured his audience. He said that since the “Kabwegyere Committee” was a Presidential initiative, it is only the President who is in the best position to respond to its findings. The Mufti noted that he has personally not received a copy of the findings. On this note, he called upon Muslims to get on with preparations for the holy month of Ramadhan. He said calls to amend UMSC constitution and other reforms as reported in the media are a waste of time because any change of leadership or amendments in the constitution can only be effected by relevant UMSC organs as provided for in article 23 of the UMSC Constitution. On the issue of Muslim unity, the Mufti said Muslims countrywide demonstrated this when they massively took part in elections which brought the current UMSC leaders in office. “For those who refused to be part of this constitutional, democratic and peaceful approach, there is no shortcut” he said adding that UMSC cannot bend its rules to appease a few individuals who are seeking cheap popularity. To some of those Muslims who claim to have initiated the mediation process between Muslims, the Mufti said; “they will only be successful if they are not part of the problem because if you are part of the problem, it is always hard to be part of the solution.” At the international scene, the Mufti blasted the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki for turning President Obama into a god. “In the past, he connived with the Americans and they hanged President Sadam Hussein on Eid Al Adhuha day, now he is cornered and instead of turning to Allah, he turns to Obama for help” the Mufti lamented.
