Muhabi to Take Kaingu & Co. NEC MMD National Secretary Muhabi Lungu says he will write to the National Executive Committee following the five top officials that are facing disciplinary charges for allegedly bringing the name of the party into disrepute. Addressing a media briefing at the party secretariat this morning Lungu, said in case the five officials, among them two vice presidents Michael Kaingu and Brian Chituwo do not cooperate the party will be forced to expel the five. Lungu said the party was however still open to an amicable settlement of the differences among the leadership. The five was last week given a 10 days ultimatum to exculpate themselves but they have not responded. “The precedence is there if somebody does not write their exculpatory letter within six months the National Secretary in accordance with this constitution has the power to immediate action either to suspend or to do whatever else is provided in terms of the constitution,” he said. “Of course the most extreme is to take you to the National Executive Committee. You notice that the letter of charge did not contain a sanction. It was not a suspension even now I have not decided to suspend or do anything like I said I want to be part of the solution.” He added: “I will write a report indicating what has happened and all the information that will be available to me, then I will submit that report to the National Executive Committee in a sober manner so that we are able to resolve this issue either amicably or IF NEED BE GO OUR SEPARATE WAYS.” Lungu said the party would do an inventory of the exact status of members rather than bask in unsubstantiated membership base. “Yes the party is still strong, but we have to ensure that we say is truly reflective and that is the responsibility of the secretariat. We have to ensure that what we say is in conformity with what is truly on the ground. I for one I am not going to be told that the party is okay without verifying it,” he said. zambiareports/2014/05/13/muhabi-take-kaingu-co-nec/
