Museum Offers Events, Workshops The Museum of American Glass (MAG) in Weston, has set dates for annual programs as well as a new series of StudioMAG Workshops now possible in a recently completed addition to the museum building. The 4th annual American Paperweight Circle is scheduled for March 28, and March 29. This event brings together collectors, dealers and manufacturers of paperweights to share information and learn from one another. As one of the nation’s major repositories of weights, MAG uses the Circle forum to promote collecting and the appreciation of American-made paperweights. For this reason the event is free and open to the public. Exhibits and sales are scheduled to open to the public from 10 a.m., until 12 noon by makers and dealers. The educational programs and net-working will take place from 1-4 p.m., with questions, answers and both formal and informal presentations. Call Sharon at the museum from 12 noon to 4 p.m., any day except Wednesday or Sunday at (304)-269-5006 for details regarding set-up for sale or exhibit. An entirely new venture is the hands-on programs in the StudioMAG Workshop which launches April 5, and April 6, with a session on making stained-leaded glass. Almost a dozen workshops are scheduled throughout 2014 with class titles such as Stained-Leaded Glass, Memory Vessel-Glass Mosaics, Made Inside Glass - Creating a Glass Terrarium, Introduction to Flamework/Torchwork, Introduction to Fusing and Slumping and Youth Makes a Glass Christmas Ornament. These workshops will focus on art using glass to connect and inspire people about glass. The leaders of MAG recognize the importance of reaching out to young people and so are offering free youth classes as a big plus to their efforts to promote interest in glass. A complete listing of scheduled events is available at magwv.
