My Daughter wrote this, it was a prompt from a school assignment. Used with permission: Where Im from… I am from endless sports From years of late nights and busy weekends, From novels and storybooks Whose tales got me through my childhood. I am from the tree in my front yard My hide away on rainy days and early mornings, Whose branches lifted me so close to the clouds. Im from the warm arms of my father and the tight embrace of my mother, From Rhad and Kims strong roots Keeping my family from drifting As leaves so easily do. I am from the kitchen, learning secret recipes Making food and memories of my own. From sit down! And quiet down! From early Sunday mornings To sing hymns in front of a room of familiar faces. Im from the stories of my ancestors From their strength Ive been told never to forget, From home cooked meals And jokes at family gatherings From the tales of the faith and humility of my grandmother And the long winded warnings of life from my grandfather, From a time line of smiling faces along the walls of my house And the boxes of memories under my mothers bed I am from chefs From athletes From the smell of a new book And I am from a family tree whose roots span life times.
