My IMDb Ranking is up another 18,000 points this week. BIG DEAL! That translates into absolutely nothing. It brings in no new productions, no new writing, acting, directing or other gigs. It does make a person feel better if he or she falls for it. THATS IT! So, why then do people get completely enamored with themselves when they see their Facebook likes or their Google hits climb? I constantly ask these people, What direct impact does that have on your business? How do you quantify your results? How do you justify the man hours it took to acquire those likes and hits? Do those real expenditures in time and money drive revenues to your business? The answer is always the same. I cant...but I know that Facebook loves me and Google loves me! I ask what good this does for their business. The follow-up answer is always, They like me! They really like me! Running a business this way is not running a business at all. Its completely delusional.
