My Wee star is continuing to fight with all his strength 4 days after he went onto ventilation! There have been very frightening/anxious times over the past few days but he has been quite stable over the last 24 hours. Caiden was moved from an oscillator to a conventional ventilator early hours on friday morning! He had irregular heart rhythms on thurs eve which lead docs to think he possible had fluid/damage to his brain,a CT scan was done n came back clear, a huge relief for us! Things change so quickly in PICU, very often a little glimmer of hope is clouded by another arising problem! He has a team of amazing doctors and nurses looking after him and even tho hes been asleep since wednesday he still manages to melt their hearts.. His secretions from his lung have tested positive for Chicken pox which is extremely rare and he is on the right medication as well as a wide range of antibiotics to cover anything that may be lurking! He has been given immunoglobulin to boost his immunity so he can natural fight of the infections! His oxygen levels have come down quite a bit but he still requires a lot of pressure from the ventilator pumping into his lungs! Blood results show infection markers are dropping which is encouraging too. He has been weaned off the meds which paralysed him but he has a lot of strength n determination, and has tried to pull out breathing tube and iv lines! He did try n open his eyes when i spoke and could follow a wee instruction to squeeze my finger, i cried for hours just knowing he could hear me so i could reassure him! They have been tweaking with his sedatives/opiates to keep him asleep as he will be more comfortable,but sometimes he is not completely over and tries to pull at tubes and lines! I think in his head hes ready to be awake but his lungs and body are just not ready! Doctors have said he has made small steps in the right direction and they really didnt expect much change at all in his condition let alone in a few days! Its been 4 days since ive heard his wee voice and its breaking my heart but i know every day he is getting stronger and doing everything he can to turn this around! We really appreciate everyones thoughts,prayers,messages,texts, candles, a real comfort for me to know everyone is behind my little star! ❤️
