My buddies bought me my number for the Kankee Fair in 1965. There I was with tennis shoes jeans and that number on my shirt, and found myself in the saddle bronc ride competition. An older REAL cowboy wrapped my hand and told me to lean forward for the first jump, then lean w.a.y... back and not to worry, I probably would not make the 6 seconds anyway. They opened the chute and the horse jumped sideways. I ended up on my back in the shoot right in the middle of several days of horse manure. The old cowboy looked down at me, laughing, and said that since I did not leave the chute, I could go again. The only place I went was out of there! Live like you were dying! This guy has my total respect.
