My car was broken into last night. Well -- broken isnt quite the word: I came out of my apartment in Pacific Beach to find my car unlocked and the glove box and center console wide open. The good news is that it could have been much worse. Only a cell phone I dont use and a cheap pair of sunglasses were stolen. What bothers me is the fact that I did everything right.. and I still got targeted. I leave nothing out in my car in plain view. What really bothers me is the fact that I also lock my car. The car has automatic locks. I suspect that thieves have some kind of device that can disable or hack these locks. Lo and behold, a quick Google search revealed the article below. I have to admit, I have a huge problem with these automatic lock and fob systems. The newer ones dont even have a proper key that you can duplicate in case you need an emergency way to enter your car. Please -- give us back our good old-fashioned manual lock-and-key system with a SEPARATE electronic alarm system. This is much more effective. Right now I feel that with the system in my car, the one who stands the greatest chance of being locked out is me, rather than potential thieves. If this is what passes for progress, I want the opposite. In many cases, older, simpler technology is better. cbc.ca/m/news/#!/content/1.2288826
