My father taught me that all men bleed red. Both sides of the argument need to stop screaming -- no one is listening. Police forces, all over the United States, need to take a minute to reflect. Are they using best practices? Are the officers reflective of the community they serve? Are they equipped with cameras? Is there support from the administration for mental health? Is there training around gender and race issues? Civilians, all over the United States, need to take a minute to reflect. How do we create a world where we can both acknowledge race and still put forward equity? How do we stop unnecessary violence and loss? How do we attain political power -- lasting political power -- to ensure our desires for safe communities and thriving families are being served? How do we grow leaders out of poor, tough, hard neighborhoods? How do we ensure those leaders have the tools they need? When we reflect on what we can do to make this world better, when we start talking about our truths and our stories, and when we are willing to listen to others -- even if we disagree - we can and will make progress. So friends... turn off the TV - hold your loved ones tight - and take some time to critically think and decide how to move forward.
