My friend Dave says that his favorite passage in the Bible says, “And it came to pass…” Many people, when they hear this, ask him to continue the verse or passage so they can hear it in context. He simply smiles and says, “That’s it. It came to pass.” He explains that this is his favorite part of scripture – no matter where it is found – because it is a reminder of the temporary nature of this life, especially of trouble and trials. He’s been through a lot in life, and as he looks back he says that every problem he has ever experienced has passed, just as the Bible promises in those words. Jesus offered similar words of comfort to his followers. John records them in chapter 16. Jesus promises that we will go through trials, but that through him, we can overcome!
