My friend Don is doing a countdown of his 28 favorite M - TopicsExpress

My friend Don is doing a countdown of his 28 favorite M performances (one for each day of February). He always has interesting and intelligent perspectives, thats why Ill be sharing his selections and copying his comments for each of them. (2007) Live Earth - Madonna with Gogol Bordello - La Isla Bonita / Lela Pala Tute Madonnas World Tours and several of her live performances since 2006 have incorporated either a guest singer or a live music act INTO her own show (as opposed to being an opening act). These have tended to be largely unknown, edgy, and international groups of folk musicians. Gogol Bordellos Eugene Hutz auditioned for a role in Madonnas film Filth and Wisdom and he got the part. She liked the liberated gypsy-punk sound and energy of his groups music so much she invited them to perform with her both at Live Earth, and on her subsequent Sticky and Sweet Tour, interpreting her classics in a completely unexpected and refreshing way while simultaneously giving their music unprecedented international exposure. Add to that you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear that she was one of the first to agree to headline Live Earth, spreading the awareness of climate change to her fans and then also carrying that message on into her own world tour. It was one of the many times Madonna came completely out of left field and blew me away, never mind the energy the woman has. Seeing how well these collaborations have worked have made me hope she might do a world music album along the lines of Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon before she retires. She is, after all, building girls schools in Malawi. I know she is absorbing sounds and rhythms all the time from all over the world. I wouldnt put it past her. All of nature wild and free... this is where I long to be...
