My grade for The Counselor is a C-, unfortunate mess from usually great director Ridley Scott and from writer Cormac McCarthy. Goes from very talky to death scenes a absurd pace that it seem Scott was trying to duplicate something the Coen brothers have made immensely better. McCarthys work is usually top notch but this steaming pile of dung he wrote isnt his style, what went wrong? Between the violence, the talky nature, uninteresting plot and concept comes a wasted cast of very talented actors with only one standout being that of Javier Bardem. Cast features Michael Fassbender, a miscast Penelope Cruz, a out of place Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt (in a insignificant small role), Rosie Perez, Toby Kebbell, Ruben Blades, Goran Visnjic and John Leguizamo... feel bad for this cast of talents and it must be a tough pill to swallow for Ridley Scott but Im sure everyone involved in this movie will improve in their next effort. What a mess...
