My great grandmother was Mary Ethel Coakley. From what Ive - TopicsExpress

My great grandmother was Mary Ethel Coakley. From what Ive learned, she and her older sister came to Canada from England around 1870, at approximately 6 and 8 years of age, respectively. Mary was employed as a domestic in the home of William Henry and Augusta Parlee Hayward---a prominent family in Saint John, New Brunswick. W.H. dealt in china imports, was a merchant, and the founder of Hayward and Warwick Ltd, a firm which is located in downtown Saint John to this day. (I dont believe that Mary was ever adopted by the family and know nothing about her older sister). After leaving their employment, Mary would marry William John Lane at St. Marys Church, Saint John on December 1, 1892. My grandmother, Marion Winchester, was their 2nd of 7 children, born April 12, 1897. My great aunt Gussie (short for Augusta Hayward, after W.Hs wife) was their 3rd born, on October 10, 1898. When my father, Daws Winchester, was researching our family history, approximately 20 years ago, he wrote to the Barnardos, the Church of England Childrens Society, Middlemore Homes, National Childrens Home, and Church Army Headquarters, all in England, trying to locate the agency which had sent Mary Ethel Coakley and her sister to Canada, but was unable to locate any records. Hopefully, in the 20 years since, someone can provide us with additional information on my great grandmother.
