My impression–admittedly that of someone who is something of a local political neophyte (having lived here only a decade or so)–is that theres a very vocal minority (and much deeper historical tendency) leaning heavily and precariously toward NIMBYism in Asheville. A knee-jerk reactionaryism that is persistently exploited and egged on by a tiny cohort of consistently dishonest political operatives and intellectual hacks, whose almost singular ambition in life appears to be to slander and cheaply vilify some of our widely (and in my opinion, deservedly) popular, liberal public servants. So its nice when follow-up stories like this are published, four years after the tempest. It would be nice if more NIMBYs admitted to having been wrong and that their fears were largely if not entirely misplaced, but thats probably too much to expect. More developments like this, please.
