My kid never had a chance to have her gut sufficiently populated with good bacteria, due to having a defect of her esophagus that prevented the normal colonization of bacteria in her digestive track during her vaginal birth, and to the fact that both she and I received hefty amounts of antibiotics during labor and, for her, in her earliest weeks and months. Double-whammy. And now we are learning that the neurotransmitters that control mood and a sense of well-being originate in the gut. Insufficient good bacteria + possibility undiagnosed food sensitivities = a lot less seratonin and other neurotransmitters being made... and a possible theory as to why she suffers from uncontrollable mood swings, OCD, and anxiety. Holy shit. This connection is powerful.
