My praying friends and family, Abby will be having extensive surgery around 8:30am. Following the 4-wheeler accident in Oct. 2011, she has had several health concerns arise, most severely affecting her ability to breathe. Her left eye plate has fallen, pressing a nose plate into her nasal cavity; 2 other nasal plates have also not held up as long as hoped. All 4 of these have to be replaced (3 w/bone grafts). Her tear duct will be re-routed to stop the constant tearing. One of the facial bones from the initial trauma never fused & keeps falling, this time partially into the sinus cavity--it must be located, reset, & splinted, a very challenging task. Her septum is severely deformed from the trauma, & further settling has caused a 100% blockage of the right nasal passage, making breathing difficult, & requiring removal of the deformed portions. Finally, a procedure will be done to correct a gap and recessed area, where last years bone graft partially dissipated by removing cartilage from behind her ear. Dr. expects surgery to take 4-6 hours; with 6 weeks out of school for the initial recovery period. Some of these procedures are quite a challenge, so we request prayer for great wisdom and for God to truly guide the surgeons hands. Please pray for peace to guard Abbys heart and mind, as she has recently expressed great fears from the past 2 years along this journey. Fears she has courageously given to Jesus this past Christmas. This is not an ideal time for bone grafts, as Abby is too young for her own hip bone to be harvested. This means temporary bone from a bone bank must be used until she is old enough to have permanent grafts from her hip. Please pray for healing, peace and endurance along this long journey. She has to take various precautionary methods for 6 months that affect her sleeping, activity, etc. Thank you so very, very much. The Pickens UPDATES WILL BE ON MY WALL
