My sister Dots. I would like to share a little story about my sister who passed away 2 years ago to a dreaded illness, cancer. She was two years older than me. She was my confidante, rock, best friend, protector, and my big sister. It was the year 2012 before Christmas when was hospitalized because the cancer returned after her battle began, months of chemotherapy, an invasive surgical procedure the previous year. A surgical procedure that removed a portion of the esophagus, cancer location, then replaced by a portion of the small intestine. This is my understanding of her surgery. She was at St.Pauls hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. My lady, Bernice, and I drove there to see and visit her for the second time. Upon our arrival, we saw her being wheelchaired out by her husband, Richard, who been by her side every second, to their vehicle. When she saw us, she flashed her smile that made everything seem alright even though she barely got out of the chair into the vehicle. I got into the front seat to greet and visit her while Bernice visited with Richard who stopped to have a smoke. My sister immediately gave her a scarf for warmth since it was cool out. We spoke about about her for alittle while before her humbleness changed the subject. I handed her some money for the times she unconditionally helped me and said,Christmas present. She mentioned that some money was coming from her Benefits Plan but was concerned it may not be in before Christmas. She was concerned about not being able to get gifts for her grandchildren and others. I mentioned everyone would be fine, and that we were concerned about her. She smiled. That was my big sister,Dots. Always thinking about others even as she battled for her life against cancer. She passed away a short time later. Her spirit lives in my life, her children, grandchildren and all the people that shared her 54 years. I miss her tremendously. I thought that I would share this story about my sister, Dots.
