My uncle was the last licensee of The Rainbow pub in King Street. He refused entry to the ladies of the night, who instead went into The Ferry which was a few yards further on. The visiting foreign sailors used to go in the ferry as well, and my girl cousin said recently that she learned all she needed to know looking out of her bedroom window at the goings on at that pub, as the oldest occupation in the World unfolded before her.
