My visit to mom yesterday (7/16/14) was short. I intentionally got it down to counting minutes. 15 minutes before dinner, about 45 minutes trying to sit with her after dinner. She looked improved: shiners were gone, stitches out, there seemed to be some focus in her eyes. But she has become a runner. Aides had already walked her out to the dining room but as they were prepping dinner, mom disappeared. For a few minutes when I got there they couldnt find her. We sat down for dinner, but the soup/salad took a few minutes and she couldnt be still. She almost never drinks water with her but this time she did, and played with it to. She complained she was cold; ordered a cup of coffee and they brought some fruit juice.a staffer came over and helped put a jacket on. Quick as can be she started taking the jacket off, all the while again saying Im cold. She started taking her blouse off but a staffer saved the day with a mug of soup. The aide cut her meat and dished her potatoes, but she had two miniscule bites and one spoon of potatoes. If aides went away she prepared to leave the table; they would rush back. Brittany, the aide who seems to help my mom the most, walked her back to her room, holding both of moms hands while Brittany slowly walked backward, watching my moms every move. Brittany settled mom in, and said she was going to let mom have some time with her son. That time was pure hell. remember I am in a wheelchair. Every time she tried to bolt, or even just stood up ( rocking back and forth) I would try to talk her down. Most of the time she wouldnt listen. She literally cried for paper - but it wasnt paper she wanted. In my chair, I couldnt pull help cord. Brittany finally came in. I gave my mom a kiss and beat a hasty retreat. enough. Good night.
