NASSIG delegation visits the Morgantina Archaeological site to plan COMREL activities On Oct. 3, a delegation of NAS Sigonella, led by Chaplain Edward Erwin and accompanied by COMREL officer Alberto Lunetta, visited the town of Aidone to meet with Dr. Laura Maniscalco, the director of the Parco Archeologico di Morgantina , an ancient Greek settlement located in the Enna province, and discuss COMREL opportunities that can help preserving this important historic site, as part of the ongoing NASSIG PAO COMREL program. After greeting the Mayor of Aidone, the delegation toured both the archaeological area and the Aidone Archaeological Museum which hosts the world-renowned and breathtaking Venere di Morgantina, a majestic statue from the fifth century B.C. ,identified as the goddess Aphrodite, that was acquired by the J. Paul Getty Museum in 1988 and returned to Italy in 2007. If your department/command is interested in supporting the NASSIG PAO program please contact COMREL officer at [email protected] The NASSIG PAO has plenty of opportunity to show friendship to the Sicilian people and be a good guest for the host nation.
