NEMA inaugurates emergency response station at Abuja airport The National Emergency Management Agency has deployed an emergency Response Intervention Vehicle and Mobile Intensive Care Unit ambulance to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. It said the deployment would enhance swift response to any emergency situation in the area. The Director-General, NEMA, Mr. Sani Sidi, in a statement from the agency, said the deployment was in furtherance to the collaboration between the agency and stakeholders in the aviation sector for greater safety in the airports and its environs. Siding who was represented by the Deputy Director, Search and Rescue, Mr. Vincent Owan, said the newly acquired equipment packed with necessary accessories would be jointly operated by officials of NEMA and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria. He disclosed that arrangement had been made to train the operators on the use of the RIV and MICU, while NEMA would retain the responsibility for their maintenance and fuelling. He said the positive disposition of the stakeholders to disaster issues had translated to greater national consciousness towards disaster management. Sidi said NEMA would continue to build on the gains by sustaining the conduct of regular simulation exercises in bringing them together to identify their respective roles under emergency situations. In his remarks, the Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. Saleh Dunoma, who was represented by the General Manager, North Central, Oluwole Osituyo, appreciated NEMA for the concern in deploying the equipment to boost the roles of its Aerodrome Rescue Fire Fighting Services. The ceremony was witnessed by inspectors from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and officers of the Aerodrome Rescue Fire Fighting Services led by the Assistant General Manager, Ibrahim Abdulaz.
