NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, 02/12/2013 - A schoolies trip has turned into a nightmare for a 17-year-old school-leaver and her family after she was allegedly poisoned by a drink containing methanol at a nightclub in Bali. Jasmine Baker, from Empire Bay on the Central Coast, was flown to the Royal Darwin Hospital accident and emergency department late on Friday night. Fellow schoolie Julie Ashby said she believed Jasmine was poisoned from drinking ‘‘jungle juices’’ at Bounty, a famous bar on the Kuta tourist strip. She had reportedly consumed only one drink before becoming dizzy with blurred eyesight. She was taken to the BIMC hospital in Kuta before being air-lifted by CareFlight. Ms Baker was headed home upon being discharged from Darwin yesterday after her condition improved, but not before her parents spoke of their distress. Father Errol Baker posted a warning on his Facebook page for other school-leavers on holiday in Bali that drinks had been ‘‘spiked with methanol’’ at three bars in Kuta. ‘‘If you feel sick and your eyesight becomes fuzzy or blurred seek medical attention,’’ Mr Baker wrote.
