NEWS UPDATES AT 7 O’CLOCK WITH ORANGE. Another Ugandan identified as George Lubega was arrested early this month on 2nd July at Guangzhou Airport, China with ‘high grade cocaine’. This was just two weeks after Chinese authorities executed two Ugandans a one Omar Ddamulira and Ham Andrew Ngobi for the same crime. Lubega is currently in detention and awaits the law to take its course. The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, James Mugume, has revealed that his family had been informed about his arrest. Recently, minister for Justice Kahinda Otafiire warned Ugandans on this matter that they should not blame government for not doing anything as China is a sovereign state with its own laws. He urged Ugandans to stop the practice of drug trafficking. Kampala Capital City Authority has received 98 solar street lamps in a 2billion shillings donation from the Chinese government. The lights which have been installed in different sections of the city will reduce the cost on lighting up Kampala. The solar street lamp project has been executed by Huawei Technologies Company. These lights have been installed where new roads are being constructed. The executive director KCCA Jennifer Musisi revealed Kabaka Njagala, Nsambya, Mbogo and Usafi Taxi Park roads have had lights installed. However, the project engineer, Eric Kimaze, noted several vulnerabilities with the new lamps, especially with the batteries and solar being too exposed to theft. The public relations officer, KCCA, Peter Kauju has cautioned Ugandans to take care of the lamps as they are for the citizens. Gunmen on a motorcycle have killed at least four people and injured several others in the Kenyan city of Mombasa. Police were quoted by local media as saying that the gunmen had fired indiscriminately at passers-by. The port city has seen a wave of violence in recent months, with a number of bombings and gun attacks. The violence has largely been attributed to Somali al-Shabab militants but many say local political rifts are to blame. Witnesses said the gunmen rampaged through the streets of Kenyas second-largest city. Israel and Gaza have both suffered their bloodiest day since the beginning of the current offensive. Israel says that 13 of its soldiers died since Saturday night, the biggest one-day loss for its army in years. At least 87 Gazans were reported killed on Sunday - 60 of them in the district of Shejaiya alone. The total death toll in Gaza now stands at more than 425. Hamas said on Sunday evening that it had captured an Israeli soldier, but Israel has issued a denial. Celebratory gunfire and shouts could be heard in Gaza City after the claim was made. Sundays death toll for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is higher than that sustained by the IDF during the entire three-week duration of Operation Cast Lead in 2008-2009, the last time that Israel sent ground troops into Gaza. It brings the number of Israeli soldiers killed in the current offensive to 18. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue operations in Gaza despite the casualties. He said the Israeli government felt deep pain over deaths of its soldiers, and that Hamas, not Israel was responsible for the escalation in Gaza. US Secretary of State John Kerry is due to travel to the Egyptian capital Cairo on Monday to support regional efforts to reach a ceasefire. RADIOCITY NEWS: BRINGING THE WORLD CLOSER TO YOU!
