Northeast Helpline - Mumbai meets Mumbai Commissioner of Police Mr. Rakesh Maria and apprises him of the problems and thank him for his support. On 14th March 2014, a Northeast helpline called “Northeast Helpline – Mumbai” was launched successfully at 2, Mini Rose Apartments, Vidyanagari Marg, Kalina, Santacruz (E), Mumbai – 400 098 by the different Northeast communities residing in Mumbai. This helpline was launched in line with the Northeast Support Centre & Helpline which was started in Delhi in 2007. The objective of launching this helpline is to address the grievances faced by the Northeast community in Mumbai. In the light of the several racial discrimination and attacks meted out to Northeast people residing in the metro cities of India, the Northeast community in Mumbai felt a need to start this helpline. The patron of the Northeast Helpline – Mumbai, Dr. Abraham Mathai, along with Dr. Alana Golmei (Northeast Support Centre and Helpline – Delhi) who was on a visit to Mumbai on the mission of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi, met the Commissioner of Police of Mumbai, Mr. Rakesh Maria, and apprised him of the issues faced by the Northeast community in Mumbai city. The Commissioner of Police gave a patient hearing and initiated some very positive steps to curb this menace. The Commissioner of Police also directed his team to conduct an audit of the vulnerable areas in the city where the Northeast people are residing and proposed more patrolling of such areas.
