NRM ready for 2016, President Museveni tells Vatican The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is ready for the 2016 general elections, President Yoweri Museveni who is also the party national chairman has said. The President was responding to a question during an interview with the Vatican Radio on a programme hosted by journalist John Baptist Tumusiime. Mr Museveni who is currently on a four day working visit in Italy, said his party has done a lot for the people of Uganda and what is remaining is to sensitize the people on exploiting what has been achieved so far to fight poverty. Quoting from the Bible, the President pointed out that what the voters want is the deeds and fruits of the party not those who only talk and criticize. Mr Museveni said that the NRM has worked very well on the infrastructure development, peace and security of the people, food security, health and education, among others. What we shall do in 2O16 is to explain these deeds and fruits to the people -what we call mobilization on household transformation,” he said. President Museveni who is also commander in chief defended Ugandas Military involvement in Somalia saying that it has served two main purposes, including ensuring peace in Somalia. Museveni explained that most of what used to be insecure areas in the war torn country have been liberated and also the terrorists have been denied the opportunity of using the country to plan and spread terrorism activities. On his meeting with Pope Francis, Mr Museveni told Radio Vatican that he had earlier written an invitation letter to the Pope and that following his meeting with the Pope on Monday, the Vatican will issue an official statement over the matter. The president also addressed Ugandans working and living in Italy at Rome Cavallieri Hotel. The President appealed to them to always link up with Uganda and urged them to invest in their country. He told the group that unlike in Europe where operating business is expensive due to stiff competition in investment; there are many opportunities in Uganda where small capital investments can produce profits. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Okello Oryem told the meeting that Uganda was peaceful and that any part of the country can be invested in and urged Ugandans in the diaspora to return home. The government Chief Whip Kasule Lumumba assured them of government assistance and said that although Uganda operates on a multiparty democracy the two sides work together to give out good government policies and legislations. LCV Chairperson Salaam Musumba who is one of the FDC Vice Presidents, told the meeting that the opposition has benefited a lot in the NRM positive policies that they can use to improve their people’s lives. Ms Musumba accompanied the group as a representative for the local government leaders. monitor.co.ug/News/National/NRM-ready-for-2016--President-Museveni-tells-Vatican/-/688334/2502064/-/ye37lv/-/index.html
