NY1 News was blasting in one of the Waiting Rooms I was in today. The first story was about the Ebola outbreak. The second story was about a paper put together by some of the Roman Catholic Cardinals arguing for a better inclusion of Gays in the Church, and an acknowledgment of their good deeds and contributions thus far. I was prompted to remember the anguish of the time when AIDS was first on the horizon. The juxtaposition of these two stories somehow made me remember that the terror back then was not only, as a Gay Man, being part of the demographic most at risk, but also the demographic being blamed and demonized for the outbreak. That was really so much to bear back then.
