NYAILs 2014 Legislative Day is scheduled for Tuesday, February - TopicsExpress

NYAILs 2014 Legislative Day is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25th! Please join us for NYAILs annual Legislative Day! The 2014 Legislative Day is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25th, 2014. Check-in will begin at 10:00 a.m. (RSVP info below) and the opening program, with invited speakers, will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Well of the Legislative Office Building (LOB) in downtown Albany. This years NYAIL Legislative Day will be held in collaboration with the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Association of New York State (CDPAANYS). Major systemic changes to the long term care system in New York continue to impact the way people with disabilities access and receive services, presenting both opportunities and challenges. In October, Governor Cuomo issued New Yorks long awaited Olmstead Implementation Plan, detailing how the State intends to comply with the Supreme Courts Olmstead v. L.C decision of 1999 to ensure individuals with disabilities receive services and supports in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs. The State is also committed and preparing to implement the Community First Choice Option and the Balancing Incentive Program. These programs, made possible under the Affordable Care Act, were designed to create new opportunities for people with all types of disabilities to live in the community with services and supports. In addition, the State continues to implement the recommendations of the Medicaid Redesign Team, including mandatory Medicaid Managed Long Term Care and the Fully Integrated Duals Advantage plan. The disability rights community must have a visible presence and continue to advocate strongly ensuring that the rights of people with disabilities to live independently in the community are protected and Olmstead implementation is fully realized in New York. Please contact local legislators as soon as possible to schedule your centers meetings with them! We ask centers to avoid scheduling meetings during the opening program to ensure a large presence in the LOB Well to hear our speakers and show our strength. To further increase the visibility of our community, come wearing your ILCs T-shirt or one of the T-shirts NYAIL distributed at past events. We look forward to seeing you and others from your center at NYAILs Legislative Day!
