NYS Comptroller to visit Lockport New York State Comptroller, Thomas DiNapoli will visit Lockport next week and will be honored at a reception sponsored by the Niagara County Democratic Committee. The City of Lockport borrowed $5 million dollars from the State of New York to overcome a deficit and the state will oversee the city’s finances for the next ten years. “Tom DiNapoli’s office did a great job in identifying Lockport’s serious financial problems and then coming up with a plan to fix it,” said Democratic County Chairman Nick Foster. DiNapoli will be honored at a reception at Erie Canalside in Lockport on Monday October 20th at 5:30 PM. The public is invited to attend. “Tom’s visit underscores his commitment to help Lockport and provide the people with a responsible steward for their tax dollars,” Forster said. The City of Lockport would have run out of funds without the state bailout. An audit by the state Comptroller’s office first exposed the extent of the deficit. Forster noted Lockport City Treasurer Michael White is the brother-in-law of retiring State Senator, George Maziarz. “It’s a shame the Republicans were more concerned with patronage than providing competent administration of the city’s finances,” Forster said. Lockport is privatizing some services and vacancies, including those in the fire department, are not being filled.
