Nathan has been doing well since our last update. He takes his medicine like a champ every morning and evening. It causes some stomach discomfort periodically during the day but still has minimal side effects. He goes back to Duke for his next round of lab work and medicine refills on August 25. Tabitha goes tomorrow, Monday, August 18th for her MRI of her brain and spine. She still spikes fevers periodically through the week and still has daily leg pains and headaches throughout the week. We are hoping that we can find some answers to her medical issues and rule out some of the scarier possibilities. We had the wonderful opportunity to spend some time at the beach last week. First, we went to visit one of our police officer friends from Massachusetts and his wonderful family as they vacation in North Carolina. It was such a fun time with them, their children and grand-baby. Then we went Monday - Saturday to Lighthouse Family Retreat in Atlantic Beach, NC. It is a Christian based camp for families battling pediatric cancer. The kids had so much fun meeting other friends with cancer and their siblings as well as the AMAZING volunteers. Sarah and Matthew made some really great connections to other wonderful children. One of Matthews new friends is battling leukemia and when Matthew found out he was so sweet and became little mama hen as he questioned what stage of treatment he was in, if he was in remission, what medicines did he take. Sarah showed herself to be such a leader and the volunteers just fell in love with her. The last night of camp was a talent show. It was so neat to see all of the kids participate with their groups in a talent: Matthew, wrestling; Sarah, cheering/gymnastics; Tabitha, suppose to sing and dance but stage fright set in; and Nathan, his group of boys danced to Let it Go and then the Harlem Shake. I dont think I have every laughed as hard. Sarah, Matthew, Nathan and Tabitha also got up together and sang Glorious Day by Casting Crowns. It brought tears to our eyes to see Tabitha for the first time EVER in public go up and not only sing with her sister and brothers but to take the microphone from Sarah:) We feel so blessed to meet several other families who are also battling some form of pediatric cancer. Our volunteers, hosts and family partners were so full of love and kindness as they all displayed such Christ-like servants hearts. It is so nice to be with other families who understand the journey you are on. It can be hard when you have been battling for so long. For Nathan, he still battles daily for 5 1/2 years now. He asked me a few weeks ago if I thought people had forgotten about him or if they still thought about him and prayed for him. I assured him that no one could ever forget that sweet, joyful face. Please dont forget to pray for the families that you know that may be struggling whether it is with cancer, other illnesses, loss of jobs, etc. We need to be mindful to lift one another up to Jesus, our Healer, Deliverer, and Comforter. Pray also for our friends who are battling cancer and different medical issues: Kye, Miguel, Melody, Phoebe, Matt, Gracey, Valentin, Bailey, Caroline, Allison, Jack, Jackson, Ella, Emaleigh, Nathan T, Ethan, Ezra, Issy, Mia, Micah, Cassidy, Layla, Charlotte, Andrew, Wesley, Kaiden, MacKenzie, Cullen, Ella, Yan, Ava, Cayden, MC and so many more. British Evangelist Alan Redpath once said: “There is nothing – no circumstance, no trouble, no testing – that can ever touch me until, first of all it has gone past God and past Christ, right through to me. If it has come that far, it has come with a great purpose which I may not understand at the moment. But as I refuse to become panicky – as I lift up my eyes to Him – and as I accept it as coming from the throne of God for some great purpose of blessing to my heart, no sorrow will ever disturb me, no trial will ever disarm me, no circumstance will cause me to fret – for I shall rest in the joy of what my Lord is. That is the rest of victory.” update from caringbridge.org/visit/nathannorman
